Turquoise Place: An Awesome Beach Vacation in Alabama

Many people don’t think of Alabama when it comes to a beach vacation, and that’s a shame. We traveled to the Alabama coast and were pleasantly surprised by its gorgeous beaches, delicious restaurants, and wealth of family friendly activities. If you’re looking for a place to stay in Gulf Shores or Orange Beach, Turquoise Place has the perfect set-up for families.

What Families will Love About Turquoise Place

Central Gulf Shores Location

Alabama’s shoreline along the Gulf of Mexico is just about 60 miles long, running along the southern part of the state. The major tourist destinations along the water are Gulf Shores and Orange Beach with smaller destinations like Dauphin Island and Fort Morgan gaining in popularity.

Turquoise Place by Spectrum Resorts is centered right in the heart of Orange Beach, one of the best beaches in Gulf Shores. It’s on the water with easy access to stores, restaurants, and shopping. If you’re looking for a convenient home base, this is the place to be.

Plenty of room for families to spread out

Turquoise Place is a luxury condominium complex run by Spectrum Resorts. Units come in a variety of sizes, with 3 to 5 bedrooms each and at least 2000 square feet of living area. Most sleep between 8 to 12 people, but some will sleep up to 16.

There are two towers (you can see them from miles away). The east tower (Tower C) has tennis courts, and the west tower (Tower D) has a staffed front desk, lazy river, and playground. D Tower is 25 stories tall with 173 units and C Tower is 30 stories high with 227 units. Both have plentiful elevators to accommodate guests.

We had a three bedroom unit and it was massive! As you walked into the wide hallway, there were bedrooms on either side, each with an en-suite bathroom. Further down the hall was a powder room and laundry room. Finally, we reached the enormous kitchen and living space (complete with a separate bar area) that extended out to a balcony overlooking the beach.

The master bedroom was adjacent to the living area and had balcony access as well. It had a giant bathroom with a jacuzzi tub, walk in shower, and dual vanity.

On the balcony, there was a hot tub, patio furniture, a barbecue grill, and one unforgettable view of the ocean. Let’s just say the entire family was extremely excited to have so much space for our vacation.

Family friendly activities at Turquoise Place

In addition to direct beach access (quite possibly the softest white sand I’ve ever found), Turquoise Place has plenty of amenities for families.

On property there are indoor and outdoor pools, a lazy river, games like giant chess and corn hole, and a playground for young kids. There are also tennis courts, beach chair rentals, and poolside cabanas.

Should your family tire of time in the sun, there’s Spectrum Club Lounge. This is where you’ll find ping pong, billiards, shuffle board, and video games. It’s the perfect space for kids and/or families to hang out.

There’s also a weekly activity schedule, and depending on the season, kids and adults can find something to enjoy. Offerings include yoga, arts and crafts, hula hoop competitions, spike ball and more. Be sure to check the schedule so you can plan your week accordingly.

Amenities at Turquoise Place

In addition to all of these fun activities, Turquoise Place has some additional offerings that will definitely add to your stay.

  1. Complimentary breakfast every morning from 7 to 10 am. There was a large variety of options including eggs, waffles, fruit, muffins, and cereal. Beverages are available too.
  2. There’s a workout facility with cardio equipment and weights. When you’re done exercising you can enjoy their on-site sauna and steam rooms.
  3. One of our favorite amenities is a local concierge service that works with Turquoise Place, The Beach Moms. They take care of everything you need to make your family vacation unforgettable. We had them pick up groceries before our arrival to make sure we could hit the ground running. They also made a reservation at a very BUSY restaurant. And probably the best thing they did was find a cake for my son’s birthday and have it delivered. Truly unbelievable service! They can also set up boat rentals, fishing charters, private chefs, transportation and so much more. We promise they will surpass your expectations!
  4. Assuming you’re driving to Turquoise Place, a covered, assigned parking spot is included in your stay.

Dining at Turquoise Place

As we mentioned, breakfast is included during your stay at Turquoise Place. Change of Pace restaurant is open seasonally, and you can order food and drinks to your poolside cabana.

Most families will choose to prepare meals in their well-equipped kitchens (there’s a Publix supermarket 5 minutes driving), but there are plenty of restaurant options in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores. Our favorites were: GTs on the Bay and The Hangout, both super fun for teens with great food.

This was our first time visiting Orange Beach and Turquoise Place, but it certainly won’t be our last. If you’re planning a vacation to Alabama, be sure to include a trip to the beach. You won’t be disappointed!
