Best Things to Do in Las Vegas with Kids

Believe it or not Las Vegas is one of the best destinations in the US for a family vacation. It’s easy to get to from almost any airport in the country. Many hotels are affordable and there are plenty of free things to do in Las Vegas. It’s extremely budget friendly for families. While the list of things to do in Las Vegas is pretty much endless, here are my top 5 family friendly things to do.

1. See the Fountains at the Bellagio

Don’t come to Vegas without stopping by to see the magical fountains at the Bellagio, a quintessential Las Vegas experience that can be had day or night. The fountains go off every half hour from 3 p.m. – 8 p.m. and every 15 minutes from 8 p.m. – midnight from Monday to Friday.

On weekends and holidays they’re every half hour from noon – 8 p.m. and every 15 minutes from 8 p.m. – midnight. They do look spectacular at night so try and come after dinner for a peak. Plan on arriving at about 10 minutes in advance to stake out a good viewing spot.

2. Visit the Discovery Children’s Museum

If you’re traveling to Vegas with kids, then bring them to the Discovery Children’s Museum for a few hours. They will love it! There’s a ton of fun stuff for kids to do including a water play room, dress up & stage, pirate ship and central climbing structure that is three floors high. Upstairs there is more on offer for older kids including science demos, art rooms and much, much more.

It’s one of the best “early” activities in Las Vegas. One of the main struggles when traveling to Las Vegas with kids is that there is nothing much open in the mornings which makes it hard to entertain early risers. It opens at 10am on weekdays in summer and 9am on weekdays in winter. Saturdays are always 10am opening and Sundays always 12pm.

It’s also really close to the Las Vegas North Premium Outlet mall so perhaps Dad could take the kids while Mom pops to the shops. And don’t miss these Las Vegas souvenirs while you’re at it!

3. Playground at Town Square

There are lots of little wooden structures for playing in, slides a plenty and an astroturf hedge maze. In summer, there’s a splash park to cool down in. There’s also a fun toy train that takes kids on rides around Town Square.

If you’re in Las Vegas during the holidays or at Halloween there’s often even set up on the lawn next door to the playground.

4. Popovich Comedy Pet Theater

The Popovich Comedy Pet Theater is the most family-friendly show in town. Who wouldn’t want to see rescue animals perform amazing feats on stage!? I’m not just talking cats and dogs here either. The show features geese, birds, rats… even a miniature horse, performing amazing tricks and scenes. Kids love it!

The show is on at 4pm from Tuesday to Saturday in the V Theater at Planet Hollywood. It runs for 75 minutes so perfect timing to wander around the Miracle Mile or grab dinner at the Gordan Ramsay BurGR bar in Planet Hollywood after the show.

5. Container Park in Downtown Las Vegas

It would be a shame to come to Las Vegas and not see part of “Old Vegas” downtown. Fremont Street is fun and a bit crazy after dark but wander a couple blocks further and you’ll find the awesome Container Park. Not only are there nice boutiques and unique fast food joints but there’s a huge playground structure in the middle of the center with three tall, twisty slides. It’s so much fun that they let adults play on them exclusively after 9pm.

The animatronic Preying Mantis at the entrance to the Container Park is also very cool. At regular intervals it starts grooving to tunes and breathing fire. Don’t miss it!
